FORTH WORTH, TX – Police arrested a 26-year-old Fort Worth man, Joseph Matthew Welborn. He is facing a capital murder charge in the case of the death of his own two-month-old son. Christian Welborn, the infant, died on December 21. According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office, he died due to head injuries. They ruled the death a homicide.
Emergency personnel found the baby at a home in the 5200 block of Azle Avenue, in Sansom Park. From there, they took Christian to Cook Children’s Medical Center. At about 6:10 p.m., medical personnel pronounced him dead.
After the arrest, they held Welborn at Tarrant County jail on Friday, with no bond set.
Officials found three other children, siblings of Christian, at the home. According to CBS spokeswoman, Marissa Gonzales, the children consisted of a seven-year-old, six-year-old, and two-year-old. State officials put the three boys into foster care on December 22.
David McClelland, the chief of staff with the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department, explained more. Samson Park police processed the scene with Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department. Then, Tarrant County detectives took over the investigation process. This is because they have more resources in order to investigate the homicide.
Bill Waybourn, Sheriff, called for a press conference to be held Friday. Then, he will share more information about the arrest.
