The city of Mesquite is a suburb located east of Dallas. In 1873, a Texas & Pacific Railway engineer founded the city. He bought land along the Texas and Pacific line which was outside Dallas city. The railroad, passing from Dallas to Shreveport, brought about a new chance for the city. The trains stopped at the newly created city. People traveling across these areas expressed interest in this newly created city. It prompted the city to grow around the railroad. The city was officially incorporated on December 3, 1887.

Nowadays, the city hosts a 36,700-square-foot municipal arts facility. The facility is a complex center containing a 500-seat music performance hall, a theater, a rehearsal hall, galleries, and support space. The facility is the cultural center for the community and is home to the Mesquite Community Theater.
